Final design selected for new Minnesota State Flag

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KVRR) – The Minnesota Emblems Redesign Commission has finalized its recommendation for a new state flag design.

The Commission voted on modifications to the original submission known as F1953. Those modifications included the symmetry of the shape of Minnesota, the direction of the eight pointed star, and the colors.

The Commission also voted for a modification to the state seal. Commissioners approved changing the number of yellow bars around the outer ring of the seal to 98, representing Minnesota’s 87 counties and 11 federally-recognized tribal nations.

The Commission will meet virtually on December 27 to discuss its final report.

The State Emblems Redesign Commission was established in the 2023 legislative session to develop and adopt a new design for the official state seal and a new design for the official state flag no later than January 1, 2024.
