MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – Moorhead Police say approximately ten middle school students who became ill after eating candy provided by another student were likely sickened by THC.

Police were called to Horizon Middle School at 12:40 p.m. after receiving a report that several students had become ill. Approximately ten students ate the candy, and some began experiencing nausea.

“Based on information gathered so far, MPD believes the substance in the candy was THC,” according to a statement provided by the Moorhead Police Department.

“School staff followed established safety protocols and contacted emergency medical personnel. Two students were transported to a medical facility for evaluation, and the remaining students were released to their parents or guardians.”

“This is a really unfortunate situation. As a parent with children in the MAPS system, I understand and relate to the concerns being raised within our community. We will continue to work with Moorhead Area Public Schools as we investigate the incident and determine how we can prevent something like this from happening again,” Police Chief Chris Helmick said.

Police say none of the students involved have been cooperative with officers, which has limited the ability to gather additional details. Police plan to continue investigating and pursue charges if possible.
