Ribbon cutting marks official reopening of Romkey Park

MOORHEAD — For the past few weeks, people in Moorhead have been enjoying a renovated Romkey Park.
And now, families and members of city and state government came out to celebrate the park with a grand opening.
The new park features a pool, splash pad, skate park, pickleball court and basketball court.
There’s also a new facility that the city will rent out for private events.
The $11.3 million in renovations for the park were partially paid for with a federal Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Matching grant.
“I think the collaboration that had to go in to making this place as beautiful and as exciting and inclusive as it is it’s because we had so many great people around the table that just lifted everybody up together,” said Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson.
After the ribbon cutting, the city gave out free chips, hotdogs, and ice cream treats.
There was also free swimming for one hour.
Romkey Park first opened in 1956.
