Two in Hospital After Police Chase in Grand Forks
A high speed chase in Grand Forks lands two people in the hospital after running from police on foot.
Grand Forks police used dogs and 4-wheelers to track down 23 year-old Mary Walls of Grand Forks…after she tried to run from police just before midnight.
Police first tried to pull over Walls for a traffic stop, but she immediately fled the scene.
Walls and her passenger, 28-year-old Craig Parkhurst of Gilby, sped down Demers Road about four miles out of town until hitting a patch of ice landing the car in a ditch.
But that didn’t stop them.
“The female fled out into the field shedding coats and sweatshirts and things as she went. Weren’t able to initially locate her but the UAS team was activated as well as our deputies got our four wheelers out,” says Lt. BJ Maxson with Grand Forks Sheriff’s Office.
Police immediately caught Parkhurst.
As for Walls, she had police on the hunt for over a half hour. They eventually found her lying on top of her jacket on a snow bank.
Both were taken to Altru for treatment of hypothermia and exposure.
Both are now in jail and face several charges.
Walls’ charges include DUI, refusal of chemical test, fleeing in motor vehicle, reckless endangerment and obstruction.
