Post-Holiday respiratory illnesses on the rise across the U.S.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Health and Human Services data shows an increase of hospital stays in the U.S. after the holiday travel rush due to respiratory illnesses. According to Essentia Health, those issues haven’t necessarily hit the Midwest, but more so on the East and West coast.

They say by getting vaccinated, it can help prevent the spread of illnesses like the flu, COVID-19 and RSV. It also comes down to common sense and self monitoring as well.

“If you have a cold don’t go to a party. Stop gathering. If somebody invites you to their little gathering and you know you have a runny nose stay at home. If you are coming to work and you’re sick, put on a mask.” said Dr. Bertha Ayi of Essentia Health.

According to Dr. Ayi, roughly around 17% of adults over 60-years-old have received the RSV vaccine.
