Wrigley Agrees with Decision Not to Reveal Security Costs During Burgum’s Presidential Run

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) – Attorney General Drew Wrigley says he supports a decision not to disclose the security costs associated with the presidential campaign of Governor Doug Burgum.
Through open records requests, KFGO News sought the information from the governor’s office initially. The request was then referred to the State Patrol which is in charge of security for Burgum.
In response, the patrol said it does not have a separate account code for security and that security and dignitary protection costs are part of the Field Operations Budget. The patrol did say that both state and campaign funds were used to pay for security and specific officers were assigned to the detail. The patrol said its aircraft were not used for Burgum’s security.
Wrigley said it would be unsafe to share security expenses because, “doing do would undermine the mission of those security resources by shedding light on the breadth and depth of that security.”
Burgum launched his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination on June 7 in Fargo and ended his campaign on December 4.
Burgum spend time in Iowa and New Hampshire during the campaign and participated in debates in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Simi Valley, California.
Since dropping out of the race, he has campaigned for former president Donald Trump in both Iowa and New Hampshire.
