MyAlly in Grand Forks Fighting to Keep The Doors Open
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR) – A Grand Forks health center is fighting to keep its doors open after a large amount of their funding was cut. MyAlly, formerly known as Valley Health, has started a fundraiser to bridge the gap.
“The reason why we love being here the most is because of helping others,” said Laura Spicer, the executive director at MyAlly.
After Title X funding was cut back and they missed out on some grants, and the money is needed to keep operations going. MyAlly has been operating for over 50 years and helps low-income people. According to the center, 73% of their patients in 2023 were either at or below the federal poverty level.
“Especially our population of about 28% don’t have health insurance. They don’t have a source of income. So they come to us,” said Spicer. “If our doors closed where would they go? Where would the patients who aren’t able to pay or pay anything at all or don’t have insurance. We serve many individuals. Only source of healthcare. Only source of education. I worry about where they would go.”
