Fake ID operation busted in Fargo
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – A large fake ID operation was busted by police in Fargo this month. 19-year-old Blaise Bitz of Fargo, a student at NDSU, was arrested for selling over 500 fake IDs and making over $40,000 in profit.
Bitz was charged with felony counterfeiting and felony illegal control of an enterprise. Fargo Police says they were made aware of the operation in September of last year and after obtaining search warrants, they were able to bust the operation. Detective Cody Gease says it was a step by step approach to uncover this case.
“Peel back those layers and discover that there’s more than 500 people that have purchased these IDs and he’s made over $40,000. It was a huge shock to me. I have not seen that in my career and I don’t know if the Fargo Police Dept. has seen it ever before.” said Detective Gease.
Capt. Bill Ahlfeldt says in his 22 years in Fargo, he’s never seen anything like this. FPD says this continues to be an ongoing investigation.
