Grand Forks Red River (GBB) and Fargo Davies (BBB) Win EDC Title.

THE ROUGHRIDERS (GBB) AND EAGLES (BBB) WILL REPRESENT THE EAST AS THE 1-SEED AT THE STATE TOURNAMENT.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR)–If you are a basketball fan, the Eastern Dakota Conference championships Saturday for both the boys and girls were a treat to watch in West Fargo.

First on the girls side. What a game it was. Tied at 30 at the half-time break, it was a back and forth game until the final buzzer. With under 10-seconds to go, and Red River down two, Hannah Litzinger knocked down what proved to be the game-winning three. West Fargo Horace had one last shot at the buzzer, but the shot did not fall and Red River celebrated as EDC Champs. Jocelyn Schiller, who assisted the game-winning shot, ended the night with a game-high 42-points. Red River won 66-65.

Though Red River won the State Title a year ago, they didn’t win the East tournament leading up to it. Head Coach Kent Ripplinger shared his thoughts on winning the EDC title as they head to Bismarck with a chance to repeat as state champions.

“Well, I am going to tell you what, It means a lot,” said Ripplinger. “This is our fifth time being in this game, and we finally got one. I did not tell the girls that, they don’t know anything about that, but we have just been so close in this game and just were never able to pull it off. So, tonight we make a big three at the end and hold them. It is amazing what it takes to win a game sometimes.”

The GBB Class AA State tournament will take place at the Bismarck Event Center in Bismarck, N.D. starting Thursday, March 7 and ending with the title game Saturday, March 9.

On the boys side, Fargo North took an early lead in the first half, but the Eagles pulled away in the second half to an 88-65 win. Mason Klabo led all scorers with a school-record 53-points, breaking his own previous record.

This is the third straight EDC title for the Eagles and head coach Bart Manson shares what number-3 means.

“It never gets old, I can tell you that,” said Manson. “It is just such a privilege coaching this group of kids. I love coming to work everyday and any coach would love to have an opportunity and I’m just the lucky guy to get to do it.”
