Gov. Burgum presents 2025-2027 budget guidelines
BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — Gov. Doug Burgum presents his final strategic budget guidelines for the 2025 to 2027 biennium.
The Governor’s Office and Office of Management and Budget began the review process with state agencies in January.
North Dakota’s state general fund revenues are above expectations in the current cycle by nearly $213 million.
However, Burgum is still calling on state agencies to find new efficiencies and lower costs.
The new budget guidelines direct state agencies with a budget of $10 million or more to find a 3% reduction in costs.
“Today, we’re issuing guidelines that are going to ask agencies to tighten their belts, just as our citizens have had to tighten their belts because of the high cost of goods and services created by high inflation,” said Burgum.
He also noted that a shortage of workers has limited economic growth in the state.
Job Service North Dakota estimates that there are 30,000 open positions.
Burgum’s time in office will come to an end in December.
