Ribbon cutting held for new inclusive playground in Moorhead

MOORHEAD, MINN. (KVRR) – The City of Moorhead held a ribbon cutting for their new inclusive playground at Southside Regional Park.
The playground features a rubber surface for wheelchair access, as well as several inclusive activities for children of all abilities.
Jen Troska, whose son has autism, spoke at the event about how important inclusive play spaces like this can be for children with special needs.
She says that spaces like this can give autonomy to children with special needs in a way that most playgrounds can’t.
“I think it gives them a feeling of autonomy. Which is so important because I think a lot of these kids, they don’t have a lot of autonomy. At least my son doesn’t.”
The playground is located next to Miracle Field, a baseball field that accommodates athletes with mobility challenges.
