Red River Valley Fair sees great turnout on opening weekend

WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The Red River Valley Fair is wrapping up the first weekend of action at the Fairgrounds in West Fargo, and despite some hurdles, they say the response has been great.

After their ribbon cutting on Friday, the fair welcomed guests to enjoy the food, rides and shows that they had on offer.

However, storms on Friday night caused some concern as the show from the Goo Goo Dolls had to be delayed.

“So obviously it wasn’t the most ideal situation, but the Sheriff’s Office reached out to us and we wanted to do it for the safety of our fair goers.” Erin Fons, with the Red River Valley Fair said.

They kept some of the buildings at the fairgrounds open so people could wait out the storm.

“We opened up all of the buildings again. So people did get to see Ag Ed past close. They got to hang out in Barnyard Bar and Sip ND.” Fons said.

And once the storms rolled through, they were able to reopen and get the show back on.

“So people stuck around, and when we opened back up they came back and people were ready. So the energy in there when The Goo Goo Dolls came on was awesome.” Fons added.

Fons says that the turnout for the fair has been great so far.

“Our gates have been packed. People have been showing up for us. So both the shows, and just being here on the grounds, it’s been pretty busy out here.”

She added that the remodeled ag education building has been a great hit with their guests.

“It is amazing. We put over a million dollars of improvements into it. All of the commodities in town have really embraced the concept of it, and we’re super excited for the public to see it.”

And for those who still haven’t made it out to the fairgrounds, there’s plenty of more to come over the next two weekends.

The fair will start up their second weekend on Thursday, July 4, when admission will be free.
