Former Cass County Deputy Tyler Gibson Speaks Out

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Tyler Gibson was terminated from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office in May for alleged continuous aggression on scenes, but Gibson says he had no idea that he would be fired.
“I just don’t see how the narrative can be changed you before this incident to otherwise Gibson is meeting the standards of the Sheriff’s office and is a being a good steward of public resources for the citizens that he serves but now there’s a disagreement on tactics on the situation such as this now the narrative has switched to you know what we don’t want you working here anymore and you’re just this unhinged aggressive deputy.”
Gibson had been employed by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office since November, 2023. Prior to that, he was a law enforcement officer in Valley City and in the state of Virginia.
“It’s kind of always something that I’ve wanted to do as a position that I’ve idolized as a kid. I watched my Dad do it, family members do it. That was kind of my introduction into the role and it’s kind of a position of public trust that I’ve always valued as important in our society and kind of something I’ve wanted to do.”
When Gibson joined the department, he and other officers were presented the levels of use of force. Which states: The reasonableness of force will be judged from the perspective of a reasonable officer on the scene at the time of the incident.
“There was a lot of uncertainty in responding to the scene but you know overall it was a very a potentially serious situation that was put out over the radio. Of course not being on scene when it happened the only thing I can think myself and the other deputies that were showing up is just kind of like worst case scenario.”
Gibson says while on his way to the scene, the officer had requested backup from several different departments.
While the termination was made final two months ago, Gibson wants to clarify that while he had used inappropriate words, he does not wish to have his reputation as a former police officer to be dragged through the mud.
“I really don’t have a lot of ill will towards the sheriff’s office or towards the sheriff himself like I said he has the ability to make the decisions for hiring and firing as he sees fit I will respect that. The biggest thing for me here today is like I said this narrative that I’m just this over aggressive unhinged employee that is completely false”
