Fargo Native Michael Hallquist Cementing Role with FM RedHawks

2020 FARGO NORTH GRAD MICHAEL HALLQUIST HAS CEMENTED HIMSELF AS AN EVERY DAY STARTER FOR FARGO-MOORHEAD.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) –From growing up in North Fargo just miles away from Newman Outdoor Field, to playing at multiple different spots across the country collegiately, Michael Hallquist has one unique path to pro baseball.

Starting as a walk-on at Bismarck State, Hallquist then spent seasons with Minnesota Crookston, the Northwoods league and Division I Ball State before he arrived back where his journey all began in North Fargo.

“Yeah, it is deficiently a full circle moment,” said Hallquist on playing for the RedHawks. “I am glad I am here. Coste has been great. Everyone has been treating me awesome and it’s so fun.”

Since arriving with Fargo-Moorhead at the end of July, Hallquist is batting just under .280 and has had countless big hits for the RedHawks during the final stretch of the regular season.

Manager Chris Coste knows first hand how special this opportunity is for Hallquist and he see’s him taking full advantage of it.

“Me being a Fargo guy, it is very similar,” said Coste. “When the RedHawks came to Fargo, my ability to play here was the biggest part of my career, to be honest with you. So, Michael is in a similar situation where he is going to use us to hopefully catapult to the next level, but in the mean time, he is also going to help us win games and hopefully win a championship.”

Growing up, Hallquist watched the RedHawks and says he enjoying every second of being a professional baseball player.

“I was a really late bloomer in baseball. I have just been working hard my whole life. To get to go or someday get to play professional baseball. I am happy to be here with these guys and I am just really so blessed.”

The RedHawks close out the regular season on Monday, September 2 against Kane County.

The American Association playoffs begin later this week.
