Fargo Public Works prepares for the snow

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – It’s only September, but preparations for the snow are already underway at Fargo Public Works.

They are currently working on repairing equipment, analyzing routes and making sure that when the snow arrives they are ready to clear it efficiently.

Their equipment takes heavy wear scraping the roads, and parts have to be repaired regularly.

Fleet Manager Allan Erickson says that while the relatively light winter we had didn’t cause a lot of damage to the equipment, it still had a big impact on how they’re preparing for this year.

“We had a lot of repairs to do because of previous heavy winters. So the impact of a light winter allowed us to catch up. We had plenty of repairs to do.”

He added that they always plan for the worst, and that long-term forecasts don’t factor into their preparations.
