Family Members Testify At Spencer Moen Murder Trial in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Several people testified during the murder trial for Spencer Moen who is accused of killing his wife, Sonja Moen, in their West Fargo home.

Two of those to take the stand were the Moen’s young kids as well as Sonja’s mother, Kristin Scofield.

While on the stand, she testified that she talked with her daughter about drinking too much as well as saying she believed Spencer to be an alcoholic.

She believed that Spencer killed her daughter.

The defense questioned Scofield on whether she had instructed the kids on what to say.

Defense Attorney: “Have you ever talked to them at all about this?”

Scofield: “Do I talk about Spencer or their mother? About the murder. I do not. I listen to them, I do not talk to them about it. I tell them that I’m sorry that happened to them.”

Defense Attorney: “How would (redacted) be able to say the word, ‘murder’? Where would she get that from?”

Scofield: “She six years old, she’s smart. She’s six years old, yeah.”

Defense Attorney: “She doesn’t even know when her birthday is. Okay. She didn’t even know how long it’s been since she’s seen her father.”

Scofield: “There’s no concept of time for a child.”

Moen could face life in prison, if convicted.
