Fargo Measure 2 Passed But Won’t Take Effect Until A Project Proposal Is Set
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Now that voters have approved an increase in the lodging tax for a convention center, discussions for where that will be and when will soon be underway.
Fifty-one percent of voters approved increasing the tax by 3% to 6%.
The tax will be in effect for 25 years.
The money collected will fund the building and any other needs for a new convention center in Fargo.
It will take a while before the tax begins and it could take years before we see the final product.
“The earliest that it would ever happen would be like fourth quarter of 2025. More likely the tax will start first quarter of 2026, I would think once all of this once the project is selected. As far as local folks go, unless they’re staying in a hotel, they’re not even going to notice this. You know. But visitors will of course will see it,” said Charley Johnson, CVB President and CEO.
Johnson says they will be meeting with the mayor in the next few weeks to put together a group to talk about their next steps.
