Dead Candidate Wins Re-Election in Itasca County, Minnesota Race

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. – Itasca County, Minnesota voters re-elected a dead commissioner into office, triggering a special election.

Officials say 57-year-old Michael “Burl” Ives died in September.

Despite this, the incumbent Itasca County commissioner beat his opponent on Tuesday by 2,000 votes.

A special election will be scheduled to replace Ives on the county board.
