Kindred Football Riding 24-game Win Streak into Dakota Bowl

KINDRED FOOTBALL LOOKS TO DEFEND THEIR 2023 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH THEIR THIRD TITLE IN FOUR SEASONS.

KINDRED, N.D. (KVRR) –Twenty Four. That is the win streak the Kindred Vikings football team owns heading into Friday’s Class A Dakota Bowl. A win would not only mean back-to-back state titles, but three in four seasons.

This years Vikings team has been dominant. Their average margin of victory sits at a tick over 35 points-per-game.

Their opponent Friday is a tough challenge.

Velva-Drake-Anamoose-Garrison is dominant in their own right. They own a 10-1 record this season. Their lone loss: Kindred in week one of the regular season.

That game was the smallest margin of victory for the Vikings this season: a low-scoring 13-6 win.

“Velva, they are what presents the pressure,” said head coach Eric Burgad. “They are a really good football team. We know we got a heck of a match up ahead of us. They’re tough. They’re gritty. They play good offense. They play good defense. They got a lot of explosive athletes. And the quarterback has a hose for an arm. They present a lot of different match up troubles.”

A Competitive game is expected between the top 2 teams in Class A.

For Kindred’s senior class, they don’t feel the pressure of the win streak and look to close their high school football careers as 3-time state champs.

“I don’t think the win streak matters at all,” said senior center/defensive end Tate Miller. “It’s just next game’s up, and we just got to win that game. It would mean a lot to me because this would be my third, and it would just be awesome to win the last game, state championship.”

The top 2 teams in Class A will battle it out at 9:10 A.M.

Kindred looking for the second straight title and third in four years.

Velva looking for their second in three years after winning it in 2022.
