KINDRED'S 24-GAME WIN STREAK DATING BACK TO 2022 ENDS WITH A 14-12 DEFEAT IN THE DIVISION A DAKOTA BOWL
HIGHLIGHTS:
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) –Velva-Drake-Anamoose-Garrison wins their second championship in three seasons after defeating Kindred 14-12 in the Division A Dakota Bowl.
With the loss, Kindred suffers their first loss in two seasons after completing an undefeated championship run in 2023 and an undefeated regular season in 2024.
The key play of the day came from Velva quarterback Ben Schepp. He connected with Matt Jochim on a 92-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter to take a 14-6 lead. That mark sets a new Dakota Bowl record for both longest pass completion and longest scoring pass reception.
The win for Velva also avenges their week one loss of this season in Kindred. The Vikings won 13-6.
Schepp gave Kindred plenty of praise after the game and added, “It has been sitting with us since August 23rd…I will tell you that right now. That bus ride back [from Kindred earlier this season] sucked, but it was great for us. Best thing that could have happened to all year. Going out and playing an amazing team, they are an amazing team and then to come back and get the dub.”
In his final high school football game, Army West Point football commit Jake Starcevic finished 10 of 19 passing for 137 yards and three interceptions.
On the ground, Kylan Swenson finished with 113 yards and a touchdown across 19 carries.
