Hornbacher’s and Cloverdale Donate Hundreds of Hams to Salvation Army

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — This year marks the 17th year the Salvation Army has received hams that have been donated for their Christmas Food boxes.

“The Salvation Army could not do what it does without community support and community giving. So, Hornbachers and Cloverdale have been amazing benefactors to the army and our administrative people in need. We serve without discrimination, we serve 365 days a year, and so we’re just grateful for them to empower us, to help so many people in the special season of the year,” said Major Abe Tamayo of The Salvation Army.

Cloverdale has brought in over 850 hams worth nearly $17,000 that will now be given to families this Christmas.

“This year we had a record number of families applying for assistance, 1,006 families representing over 2,500 individuals. They will receive a generous Christmas Day dinner because of Hornbacher’s and Cloverdale. So we are so appreciative of them extending a hand to the Army and out to the community,” said Tamayo.

Lenny Heupel of Cloverdale Foods reminisces about the time he worked at Hornbacher’s and was setting up the program to make donations. Now as a Cloverdale employee he continues to keep it running.

“Working for Hornbacher’s one time and now working with Cloverdale, you put the two together and you can take care of the community at a time where inflation is obvious and everyone can see it. Especially, you know, you got to have a roof over your head, you got to be able to feed yourself. So this is very important and it is the holiday season where everybody wants a Merry Christmas and nothing like a nice ham on the table for your meal,” said Lenny Heupel, Regional Sales Manager at Cloverdale Foods.

With the Salvation Army in its 127th year, Tamayo hopes for the Fargo Moorhead community to continue its support.
