FMRC Club Hosts First Winter Charity Race

The cost of entry to any race was 3 cans of food - which was then matched by the club in donating to the Great Plains Food Bank.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The roars of remote controlled cars filled a room at the Bowler all Saturday. This place is commonly used for meetings for the Fargo-Moorhead Radio Control car club. But this time, it also benefited a good cause.

The club decided to have its first ever Winter Charity Race. Donating at least three cans of food got you one free race entry, though organizers say most people brought much more than that.

They say they’re not surprised that their community stepped up to the plate with such enthusiasm.

“It’s just great to see that they’ve put forward that they really want to support something like that,” said board member Marco Moreno, in relation to the donations to the Great Plains Food bank.

“So it’s just awesome. Not shocking with this group of guys, they’ve always been great with helping everyone, but it’s just great to see it come together. In such a short time, too.”

FMRC did a 1 to 1 match on every can donated, plus they plan to donate any monetary proceeds they got from the event – all of it going directly to the Great Plains Food Bank.
