FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — As the clock approaches midnight, people will be gathering to ring in the new year, and Fargo Police want to make sure everyone out tonight stays safe.

The department will be having increased patrols throughout the city, including increased foot patrols in downtown Fargo.

One of the biggest risks associated with the holiday is driving while intoxicated.

Fargo Officer Spencer Henning stressed the importance of making sure you have a safe way to get around and when you’re ready to head home.

Henning says, “Not just over the holiday but any day of the year, is if people are going out and planning on enjoying the holiday or having a couple of drinks, have a plan first and foremost on how you are going to get home.”

Henning also stressed that having a safe, sober ride is important even if you’re planning on having only one drink this evening.
