Gate City Bank Gives $45,000 To Three Charities on Giving Hearts Day

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) –More than 160,000 nominations were made to receive a grant from Gate City Bank. Haven, a non-profit in Moorhead, was awarded $25,000. This year’s $10,000 winners included Best Friends Mentoring Program in Dickinson and the Ronald McDonald House in Fargo.

Haven helps families handle the loss of a child. It’s been working from a storage unit, the back of a car, and a garage.

“It’s been really difficult to try to merge all those things together and have a space that makes sense and that we can afford and that we can bring families in and offer services in, we just don’t have that. And we just don’t have the funds for it and this is going to change that for us and we’re going to be able to find a home,” said Jen Burgard, Executive Director and Founder of Haven.

Since 2017, Haven has helped over three hundred families and hopes to continue doing so with the money they have received.

“So, we have got some really great new programming on the horizon. This is also going to help out with. We can’t speak on it entirely, but we will be partnering with a lot of mental health professionals in our community to offer even more support for these families,” said Burgard.

Gate City Bank has donated more than $2 million through its partnership with Giving Hearts Day, benefiting 300 charities.

“You know we’re a community bank and we’re here to serve our community and a great big part of that is supporting and uplifting these charities that really help and support our community,” said Amanda Torok, Senior Vice President of Culture at Gate City Bank.
