Officials Provide Education on Fake IDs

The false documents are more realistic than ever before, and biometric scanners are required to accurately detect them.

FARGO, N.D. – The problem, according to those in the know, is simple.

“The kids have found that they can purchase these fake IDS off the internet for around 50 to 250 dollars,” said Tom Volk, prevention administrator.

“And they look very legit.”

But sussing out fake IDs is proving to be more difficult than ever before.

“I was also a bartender when I was in college, and I’m looking at a lot of these IDs and I would probably not have caught one of these IDs,” said Volk. “That’s how legit these IDs are looking.”

Members of law enforcement and officials dedicated to stopping the proliferation of these documents gathered in the Fargo City Commission chambers to brief the public on how widespread this issue is and the biometric scanners that are the best for detection.

It’s said that businesses are generally quite welcoming of the scanners in their establishments.

The goal now is to get them to as many places as possible, so that the crackdown on underage people using fake IDs can begin in earnest.
