Pond Hockey Season Wraps up at Lindenwood Park
Teams in the gold and silver divisions even had the chance to compete for some vaunted hardware.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – A successful pond hockey season is in the books thanks to hard work and community involvement.
Fargo Park District began hosting games at Lindenwood Park on February 8 for Youth Pond Hockey Day.
Since then, those 18 and older have hit the ice, with the Novice division playing last weekend and the Silver and Gold divisions wrapping things up this weekend.
The park district gave credit to its maintenance team for constructing such beautiful rinks.
The players competed for the love of the sport, bragging rights and even a unique trophy.
“You kind of get to carry it around at the event and then we’ll take it back and put your name on it for the next year for teams to remember you, year after year,” explained Tatiana Friese, event supervisor for the Fargo Park District.
“It’s kind of fun because it’s like a Stanley Cup, so the teams really love hanging out with it, playing around with it.”
This year saw record turnout for the youth and adult pond hockey events.
The park district plans to bring it back next year, weather permitting, possibly with a special kickoff celebration included.
