MPCA fines American Crystal Sugar $16,000

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KVRR) – The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says American Crystal Sugar failed to collect fecal samples and exceeded their fecal sample limit at their Moorhead and East Grand Forks locations in 2024.
The MPCA says the violations were discovered during a Minnesota Pollution Control Agency investigation. The company was fined $16,000.
The violations occurred on five separate days in Moorhead and two separate days in East Grand Forks.
The MPCA says when calculating penalties, the agency considers how seriously the violations affected or could have affected the environment, and whether they were first-time or repeat violations.
