Camp Good Mourning Provides Space For Kids To Cope With The Loss of a Loved One
TURTLE RIVER STATE PARK, N.D. (KVRR) — Kids who have experienced the loss of a loved one may have the opportunity to be a part of a camp to cope with those feelings.
Camp Good Mourning is a day camp at Turtle River State Park that started back in 1998.
It’s sponsored by Altru Health System
The camp helps 5 to 18-year-olds learn new coping skills and other avenues to express their feelings.
Activities include group discussions, arts and crafts, music therapy, nature walks, and other recreational activities.
“When a loss occurs, it can be really hard to know how to help children cope with their feelings, you know. Especially if you, the parent or the guardian, are working through your own at the same time. So it’s just really kind of being able to come away with what they’re feeling is normal and giving ways to express how they’re feeling in a healthy way. We just have found that to be very impactful,” said Courtney Caron, Manager of Case Management and Spiritual Care at Altru Health System.
Registration is open until June 1st, and the camp will be held on Saturday, June 14th.
