Interstate Speed Limit Jumps to 80 MPH Starting In August In North Dakota

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR/KFGO) — Interstate speeds are going up across North Dakota on August 1.
Gov. Kelly Armstrong has signed a bill raising the speed limit from 75 to 80-miles-per-hour.
The legislation also raises fines for speeding.
Armstrong says he believes that the speed limit increase strikes a reasonable balance with neighboring states and raising fines should act as a deterrent to speeding.
The speed limit on interstates in both South Dakota and Montana is already 80 while the speed limit on non-metro freeways in Minnesota is 70.
The speed limit on North Dakota interstates went to 75 in 2003.
