Swenson No Longer Employed by Moorhead Police Department
A media release says that his last date of employment was Friday, May 23, 2025.
MOORHEAD, MN – The Moorhead Police Department has issued a statement saying that former Captain Deric Swenson is no longer under their employment.
Swenson was serving as acting Deputy Chief when he was placed on administrative leave on March 24, 2025.
This was following a complaint the city received regarding Swenson. The department says that because his employment expired while they were looking into this complaint, “the investigation has concluded with no final disposition of the complaint.”
Swenson did receive a written reprimand following an investigation into a complaint made about him in 2019.
The allegations of that complaint were that Swenson had made inappropriate jokes and verbal statements in person and through social media that caused subordinate employees to feel uncomfortable.
Swenson had been employed by the city since November 13, 2000.
The city of Moorhead said that they have no further comments about this matter, due primarily to Minnesota’s government data privacy laws.
