Cass County Sheriff’s Office warns of text scam

Scam

CASS COUNTY, N.D. (KVRR) — The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a scam.

Starting this morning, several Cass County employees began receiving phishing texts on their county-issued cell phones.

The same texts began hitting the personal telephones of county employees and they believe these texts may go out to the general public, as well.

The texts appear to impersonate the North Dakota Department of Motor Vehicles or NDDOT regarding supposed fines and a threat of license suspension if they go unpaid.

The NDDOT will never send text messages regarding fines.
