FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — It’s a historic moment in time for people of all ages to see Fargo’s very own time capsule. Bringing to light a passage of time many haven’t seen for fifty years.

“It was great to see all this and to see the changes that have occurred in fifty years. And what in our world has occurred since then,” said Carol Pinke, Audience.

The time capsule was buried during the Fargo-Moorhead Centennial celebration in 1975. From postcards, sale slips, films, brochures, catalogues, a telephone, and more. Many in the audience were emotional hearing the names of friends, family, and businesses that once were in the city come back to life.

“I think it was just other communities probably done it. And it was just the thought of you know looking forward fifty years and how fun it would be to have this day today, you know come true,” said Tom Dawson, Head of the Former Centennial Time Capsule Committee.

Dawson and Joe Bofferding, a former member of the Youth Centennial committee, came out to see the time capsule opened. Both mentioned they did not know what to expect but were excited to see what came out.

“It just kind of brings back a lot of memories from you know, growing up in Fargo. I lived here through 1980, graduated from NDSU, and left. I have a couple of kids that live here now, so I’ll come back every once in a while,” said Joe Bofferding, Former Youth Committee Member.

Mayor Tim Mahoney mentioned he would like to start a new time capsule next year. Hopefully, one that is more waterproof.

The time capsule will be available for viewing at Bonanzaville.
