State representative brings awareness to LGBTQ community across Minnesota
ST. PAUL (KVRR) — As one of Minnesota’s first openly transgender lawmakers, State Representative Leigh Finke of St. Paul shares how she has been working to bring awareness to the LGBTQ community.
Since taking office, Finke’s mission has been to provide equality laws and obtain gender affirming care for people within the state and outside of the state.
As states like North Dakota ban gender affirming care for minors, care can be provided on the Minnesota side.
Finke has traveled across the country to talk about these topics.
“Being in places like Alec or Fergus Falls or Fargo or Moorhead it’s extremely important for advocates like myself because we know that our communities are there. And very often we get ignored or forgotten or lost in the shuffle in their communities,” said Finke.
Finke is working to introduce a bill for equal rights for all people at the next legislative session in February.
