LEGION: West Fargo Wins North Dakota Class AA State Championship

WEST FARGO WILL PLAY IN THE CENTRAL PLAINS REGIONAL IN FARGO.

WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) –A Dynasty is continuing in Legion baseball for the West Fargo Patriots. On Saturday, August 2, the Pats won its fourth State Title in Five years and second in a row.

A handful of the roster is used to this winning feeling after winning a State Title with West Fargo Sheyenne in May. That includes the Legion tournament Most Valuable Player: Landon Zink.

“The experience from the [high school] state tournament definitely helps,” said Zink. “You know, kind of relax and just knowing that I’ve been there before and being able to perform my best. We’ve lost some tough games early in the year, but we’ve been able to bounce back and especially in the state tournament, you know, we had to win two on Friday and two on Saturday to win the state tournament, and we did. It was amazing.”

The Patriots now prepare for the Central Plains Regional Tournament that will be held in Fargo this week where the winner heads to Shelby, North Carolina for the American Legion World Series.

“We’re all pumped,” said outfielder/pitcher Trey Husar. “A handful of us played in [the Regional] last year, but there’s a lot of incoming guys that are super excited to attack the process along with the guys that played last year. I think we’re going to make a statement.”

Shortstop Jett Collins added, “We didn’t want to go to the Regional being the second place team. We wanted to go be the first place team, being the team from North Dakota. [We need to] keep doing what we’ve been doing. Our bats have been hot. Our pitching’s been really good. Our pitching depth is great. I also want to credit our defense. Our defense has been really good. We’ve been smooth in the field, making plays. Just keep doing what we’re doing.”

The Tournament will be played at Starion Bank Field. The host team, Fargo Post 400 (2nd place at the State Tournament), will also be in the field.
