City commissioner Dave Piepkorn calls out mayor and police chief for their lack of leadership

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — After Monday afternoon’s press conference, two city commissioners have called for the dismissal of Police Chief Dave Zibolski.

He became defensive with reporters when asked about the delay in releasing information on the Sunday shootings and his whereabouts.

KFGO’s Joel Heitkamp invited commissioners and the chief on his morning show.

City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn took part and Mayor Tim Mahoney called in.

Piepkorn says the mayor should have taken more leadership during the incident and that he was throwing Zibolski ‘under the bus’.

“When something like that happens you are immediately available and that’s just part of the job. If you can’t do that, then don’t be in that position,” said Piepkorn.

Mahoney said he will be sitting down with Chief Zibolski and the topic of termination will come up.
