AARP Provides Free Document Shredding

Shredding old files is one way to prevent identity theft

FARGO, N.D. — Now that Tax Day is over, you might have cleaned out documents that need to be discarded.

AARP hosted a free document shredding event, which helps reduce the risk of identity theft.

MinneKota Secure Document Destruction had a truck on–site to shred the documents.

Over 600 people came to discard their old files.

Organizers say identity theft ranks as one of the top complaints reported to the Federal Trade Commission.

“Identity theft is one of the most pressing issues. That would be forms that have name and addresses on them, social security numbers, bank numbers, any personal identifying information,” said Lyle Halvorson, communications director for North Dakota AARP.

The AARP will hold another shredding event in October.
