ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KVRR) — A man arrested in Moorhead in September for poisoning his former roommate in St. Cloud has been deemed incompetent to stand trial.

But following the hearing on Monday in Stearns County Court, prosecutors filed an intent to prosecute 35-year-old Stuart Hanmer when he regains competency.

The Fridley, Minnesota man is charged with murder in the death of Cody Ernst.

Court records say the men had coffee together on May 15 and Ernst later developed symptoms including seizure-like activity.

He was hospitalized in St. Cloud then taken to the University of Minnesota where a heavy metals test revealed a lethal amount of Thallium.

Ernst died on June 22.

Another hearing will be held in 30 days.
