UPDATE: woman killed by gunshot, Horace man arrested and is in Cass County Jail

UPDATE: Authorities have arrested 21-year-old Derrick Lobbo, of Horace. He is charged with Reckless Endangerment, Child Neglect, Warrant for Driving Under Suspension and Warrant for Possession of Marijuana. The victim died from a gunshot wound. Her name is not being released at this time.
HORACE, N.D. (KVRR) — Shortly before 8:00 am Wednesday morning, Cass County Sheriff Deputies responded to 7994 Jacks Way, an apartment complex located in Horace, for an unknown disturbance. As they were making their way to the scene, they learned that a woman had sustained some injuries.
“Our deputies responded along with Southern Valley and Sanford Ambulance. And located the female individual and performed life-saving measures on her. Unfortunately, she did not make it,” said Jesse Jahner, Cass County Sheriff.
A man encountered by deputies at the scene was detained.
“As everyone could imagine, we don’t know what happened right. So, we want to make sure that we can, with that person’s assistance, hopefully piece everything together. Why this person might have been injured, how they were injured, and things of that nature,” said Jahner.
A message was sent to residents in the area that local law enforcement would be on scene. A nearby Sanford clinic had gone into lockdown and eventually resumed normal operations.
“We have deputies inside the apartment staged strategically in different locations to protect the integrity of what we think might give us information as to what occurred. And so, we’ll keep those individuals on scene. We want to make sure that we don’t have people coming and going, because we don’t know everything that exactly happened,” said Jahner.
A news conference will be held tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at the Cass County Courthouse for the latest on the investigation.
