FARGO — Area residents in need were able to get Thanksgiving meal boxes, thanks to the Salvation Army.

Volunteers arrived at Hope Lutheran Church in south Fargo just before 7 this morning to hand out over 500 filled boxes.

Each box contains Thanksgiving staples like bread, corn, mashed potatoes, and more.

This year recipients will also get a voucher they can take to some local grocery stores.

There they can exchange the voucher for either a turkey or another meat they would prefer for their Thanksgiving meal.

“We are filled with gratitude fo the generosity of the incredible community,” said Maj. Abe Tomayo. “It enables us and empowers us to help those who would have no help. And so in this Thanksgiving season, they can gather as the family and enjoy the festivities as well, so thank you.”

The Salvation Army distributed the Thanksgiving meal boxes until 4 p.m.
