Minnesota farmers and rural communities hit hard by rising energy prices

MINNESOTA (KVRR) — Minnesota farmers and rural communities have been hit hard again this year with an increase in their electricity bills.

Minnesota Department of Commerce spoke with two Minnesota farmers who say they have turned to solar power for their daily energy.

But many people say they are cutting costs by cutting back on medications or food.

The deputy commissioner of Division of Energy Resources says support from the federal government has been reduced for both wind and solar.

“We are seeing upward pressure and anticipate upward pressure on energy prices. And also a push back against the sort of energy we can do as an energy industry that’s based from the production to the end point in Minnesota,” said Pete Wyckoff, Deputy Commissioner, Division of Energy Resources, Minnesota Department of Commerce.

As the president pushes to eliminate energy assistance, he says you should talk to your legislators.
