Metro Flood Diversion Authority issues year-end update

First Milestone For Red River Diversion Project

Fargo, N.D. (KVRR) — After years in development, the FM Area Diversion is nearing completion.

The Metro Flood Diversion Authority is releasing their year-end update on the progress of the diversion project.

They say the diversion is more than three-quarters of the way completed, with some of the construction continuing during the winter months.

They also say that the concrete, asphalt and riprap placed combined with the material removed for the project would be enough to fill the North Dakota Capitol Building three times.

“It’s been a productive year that’s moved us significantly closer to the finish line. Next year will be the last major construction push, and we will begin to shift major components to O and M, the operations and management stage.”

The MFDA says that the piling used in the project, if laid end-to-end, would stretch more than 42 miles.
