UPDATE: One dead after head-on crash in northwestern Minnesota

UPDATE: Minnesota State Patrol has identified the fatal crash victim as an 18-year-old male from Thief River Falls, Minnesota.  They say more information will be released on January 17, 2026.

The driver of the semi involved in the crash has been identified as 61-year-old Robert Nichols of LaPorte, Minnesota.

He was not injured.

PLUMMER, Minn. (KVRR) – The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a deadly head-on crash in Red Lake County.

Sgt. Jesse Grabow says the crash happened on U.S. Highway 159 near Plummer just before 7:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Grabow says one person is dead and another is injured.
