Minnesota sues Trump Administration over ICE surge

MINNEAPOLIS (KVRR) — Minnesota Attorney General Ellison and the cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul are suing the Trump Administration to halt “Operation Metro Surge”.
They allege that the surge is unconstitutional and unlawful, violating the First and Tenth Amendments, the Equal Sovereignty Principle and the federal Administrative Procedure Act.
They claim the surge of federal agents is pretext for Trump’s desire to seek political retribution on Minnesota and its leaders.
Ellison along with Mayors Frey and Her are also asking the court for a temporary restraining order, citing immediate harm the state and cities are facing.
“They’re making unconstitutional arrests and using excessive force. DHS agents have barged into restaurants asking to access secure areas. And when asked to present a warrant, which is required by law, they respond, ‘We don’t need one'”, said Ellison.
They claim ICE agents are arresting, threatening, and using force against innocent bystanders as well as using force against individuals peacefully engaging in constitutionally protected speech.
