Former state lawmaker announces campaign for U.S. House

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — A former state lawmaker makes it official and jumps into the race for U.S. House in North Dakota.
KVRR first reported last week that Vern Thompson intended to enter the race against Republican Rep. Julie Fedorchak.
The Democrat previously represented the Minnewaukan area in the North Dakota House and Senate.
Thompson and Trygve Hammer are both seeking the Democratic nomination.
Since leaving office, Thompson has been running a trucking business hauling natural gas to Canada.
But after seeing tariffs and other issues impact people, he says that this is a time more than ever to run.
“We’ve got to get back to the basics and start working for the people, not the powerful, not the wealthiest, not the large out-of-state corporations. And I don’t feel that I owe anything to any of those people. If anything, I’m trying to do the will of the people and respond to them and help them,” said Thompson.
Thompson will be at the state convention in Bismarck on March 6 to seek support from the party.
