League of Women Voters ND President shares concern over bill that would require more identification for voters

NORTH DAKOTA (KVRR) — Local activists are raising concerns about the Save America Act moving through Congress.
The bill introduces a ruling that would require all voters to present proof of citizenship, such as a passport or a driver’s license paired with a birth certificate, adoption paperwork, or a certificate of naturalization.
Many who have changed their names would also need to present another form of identification.
The League of Women Voters says that while this is not so much of a concern in North Dakota, which is the only state with no voter registration, it should be a concern for everyone.
“It’s just going to make it very, very difficult for people…Especially our tribal members again, and many of our older Americans. They don’t have those documents anymore. And to try to get them is not an easy process,” said Kathy Tweeten, League of Women Voters, North Dakota President.
The SAVE America Act is expected to be brought to a vote in the Senate next week.
