FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO) – The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two people involved in a crash between a car and a pedestrian.

Dispatchers received a call just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, about the crash on County Highway 1 south of Fergus Falls.

The driver, 47-year-old Yullveny Quijada, called 911 and said she hit someone with her vehicle.

Deputies say 13-year-old Ellie Armstrong was on the side of the road getting mail prior to being hit.

Armstrong was taken to a hospital by ambulance and then flown to Fargo.

In a post on social media, Ellie’s father says she is in the ICU with injuries that include two fractures to her arm, lung damage, a brain bleed, liver laceration, and road rash. The post goes on to say that she is making progress.

The sheriff’s office says Quijada was not injured or impaired, and no distracted driving is suspected.
