Sheyenne high school is showcasing its new additional space that is allowing their students to focus on potential careers.
The space was funded by a referendum bond back in 2011, and the West Fargo school board is proposing yet another bond to be approved by voters.
KVRR’s Brittany Ford has why the district is asking for more money.
TJ and Alison, the West Fargo School District says they simply can’t keep up with the growing student population.
The 98.1 million dollar bond will allow the district to avoid overcrowding, and provide more opportunities for students.
Additional classrooms, a gymnasium and a theatre are just some of the newly added features at Sheyenne High School.
The facility now features some of the school district’s newest academic programs that provide hands on experience through career driven courses.
Students are able to receive college credits, and explore fields like healthcare, aviation and diesel mechanics.
“The health careers upstairs, I wanted to be a trainer but the vocabulary and all the testing, and licensing, that I’d have to go through, and keep up with it. I just thought it was too much for me so this year I tried diesel engines and I just love it,” said Charlie Webber Senior at Sheyenne High.
Superintendent Flowers says the district is standing by its promise made back in May of 2011; the newly proposed referendum bond will help avoid overcrowding and increase opportunities for students.
“In a district growing like ours with two high schools, and down the road perhaps three high schools we don’t have enough space to do swimming and hockey and these types of things that are needed and expected in a district of our size so asking voters for that.,” said Superintendent Flowers.
Superintendent Flowers says that the bond will be not of any cost to tax payers, and its approval will be decided by a public vote.
The vote will take place November 17th, and will need a majority of 60 percent to pass.
