Runoff Vote Set for UND Nickname

It’s down to three.

UND announces the school will hold a runoff vote for the top nicknames chosen for the university.

The three names are Fighting Hawks, Roughriders and Nodaks.

The primary vote wrapped up on Friday night.

The Fighting Hawks got just over 6,900 votes, Roughriders with 4,600 votes and the Nodaks coming in with 4,500.

The other two names that rounded out the top five were North Stars and Sundogs.

Both received less than 15 percent of the vote.

Eligible voters can begin voting for the final three names Monday, November 2 at noon and the vote ends at midnight Friday, November 6.

The university anticipates having the results by the week of November 9.
