MN gun bill added to larger omnibus bill

ST. PAUL — A DFL-led gun bill is one step closer to a vote on the floor of the Minnesota Senate.
The bill would add language to the state statute detailing which guns are considered assault weapons.
For example, semi-automatic rifles and pistols would be banned if they have folding or telescopic stocks, or if they have protruding grips that can be held by the non-trigger hand.
Thumbholes on rifle stocks would also be banned as would threaded barrels on pistols.
Magazine sizes would be limited to under 10 rounds and guns with removable magazines would be banned as well.
“This isn’t a political issue for me or the people in my community,” said (DFL) Sen. Zaynab Mohamed. “For Mike and Jackie, who lost their daughter Harper, it isn’t political. It’s personal. And they would do anything to get their child back. To make sure they don’t sit behind us and watch us argue about process.”
The bill was added to an omnibus bill on Tuesday. That omnibus bill passed the committee and will now go to the Senate Floor.
