Free Comic Books, Mick Foley Mark Monumental Weekend for Paradox
The shop's owner says the last two weeks have been the most impactful in the shop's entire history.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – “We had a thousand people for Free Comic Book Day yesterday, and now we’ve got the legend himself, Mick Foley, right here,” beamed Richard Early, owner of Paradox Comics-N-Cards.
That’s right. It wasn’t enough for Paradox to get items out the door like gangbusters for National Free Comic Book Day, where the store remained packed for essentially all of its operating hours.
The store additionally managed to draw even more folks the following day, all of them stoked for a meet-and-great with the iconic pro wrestler Mick Foley.
Foley’s management team actually suggested the pit stop, making it part of a larger tour of the region.
He wouldn’t have it any other way, as he says shops like Paradox are what make places like Fargo so special.
“Every comic book store has its own feeling. And you can just sense that this is place that is a part of the lifeblood of the community,” he said.
Foley has fond memories of the state of North Dakota.
“First time I was in Fargo was in 1987, and we drew about 80 people, like it was a terrible tour,” he laughed, “but we were seeing beautiful parts of the country I’d never seen before. We had a great time.”
After a day like today, many fans will have memories of their own, something Paradox is positioned to continue to provide.
Paradox’s future community event plans include another Comic-Con at Brewhalla and an even larger one in the proposed convention center once that is completed and ready for use.
